So it's good news for area residents and motorists who frequent businesses, including McDonalds and local shopping centers, that a major utility project will result in a county-paid repaving of the avenue.
The bad news is gas line work by Con Edison is expected to disrupt traffic at and near Saw Mill River Parkway exit 27 in Thornwood and Route 117 in Pleasantville for he next four months.
Con Edison plans to begin replacing gas mains starting this week on Marble Avenue from the Saw Mill Parkway access road at Exit 27 in Thornwood up to Pine Street. Another portion of the project will commence on Marble Avenue at Hobby Street, then continue onto Bedford Road and up to Key Food at Pleasantville Road.
After some prep work this week, Con Edison told the village it will start with the replacement closest to Bedford Road (Route 117) and the Saw Mill Parkway exit in Thornwood. Utility crews will then work near Hobby and Pine streets, which adjoin the major parkway. The gas line project is expected to be completed by August.
Most work will be done Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
